Purebred Stock
 
PEAK Swine Genetics Inc. offers superior genetics in four purebred breeds:   
 
  • The Candian Yorkshire gives excellent economic returns due to their trademark characteristics of proven leanness, growth rate, feed conversions and undisputed prolificacy that have been enhanced through selection and genetic evaluation programs.
      
  • The Canadian Landrace is highy desired for its average daily gain, feed conversion, and leanness.  The Landrace is a well-muscled white breed noted for its high quality carcasses, high percentage of ham and particularly for the production of bacon.  The breed has outstanding performance under all housing conditions and readily adapts to all climatic conditions.
     
  • The Canadian Duroc is a solid red, meat-type animal that is noted for their carcass characteristics and feed efficiency.  Strong feet and legs make the Duroc an excellent choice for rugged commercial feeding conditions.  The Duroc is also noted for large litters, a characteristic retained even when used in a cross breeding program.
     
  • The Canadian Lacombe is a white breed that contributes stength to commerical breeding programs.  The Lacombe exhibits valuable traits for excellent carcass quality such as deep, meaty hams and lean meat.




 
For In-House Multiplication
Purebred boars and gilts are available for In-House Multiplication. The purebred Yorkshire and Landrace are bred to produce F1 hybrid gilts, named PEAK Summit gilts. The Summit gilts are retained within the herd for breeding commercial hogs.
For Commercial Producers
PEAK Swine Genetics Inc. has bred two white gilt lines for maximum hybrid vigour and mothering ability:
 
  • Summit gilts are bred from Yorkshire and Landrace breeds for high productivity to meet the needs of the most intensive and controlled management situations.
     

  • Apex gilts are bred from Duroc boars for durability and longevity to meet the needs of a mixed indoor/outdoor housing management scenario.

  • Trailblazer Boars are bred from our exclusive Lacombe and Duroc breeds to produce fast growing offspring that grade well and enhance meat quality through improved meat quality through improved color and marbling

  • Challenger Boars are bred from Pietrain Sires and our exclusive Lacombe breed to produce fast growing offspring that grade well and enhance meat quality through improved meat quality through improved color and marbling
