PEAK OF PERFORMANCE NEWS

General Manager Comments

Welcome to the Alberta Pork Congress! There are still a number of people who have been associated with the pig industry in these two provinces for more than 30 years, to have been part of the big changes in pig production and in pork quality. It has been a pleasure for all our PEAK Swine Genetics associates to work with our clients and industry partners. Our pork industry will continue as a success story for the coming century as well.

Congratulations to the winners of the Alberta Pork Congress Awards – in Lifetime Achievement, Pork Industry Leadership and Farm Team.

We’re very proud to congratulate the winners of our Lowest Warranty Awards for 2005. A large number of our customers are able to introduce replacement boars and gilts into their herds with very little problem. We continue to have perennial winners as well as new successes in both the boar and gilt categories.

Growth in Weaning Weights

Weaner pigs from PEAK sows grow amazing well on a number of farms.

Hutterville Colony averaged weaner weights of 9.3 kg from 24 sows that weaned 11.8 pigs per litter at 26.6 days of age. There were 6 gilt litters included in the week’s weanings.

Enchant Colony now weans piglets weighing 9 kg each from sows that are weaned at 28 days. Piglets weighed 6 kg at 21 days during that weaning management regime.

Territory Managers

Les, Mike and Paul are here to meet with all their clients. Be sure to meet with your territory manager to confirm orders or to voice any concerns you have about pig quality.

Our fellows continue to work hard to bring you excellent stock of various breeds, whether for fills or as regular replacements.
