PEAK OF PERFORMANCE NEWS

General Manager Comments

Welcome to the 2008 Alberta Pork Congress! It’s been a pleasure for all our PEAK Swine Genetics associates to work with our clients and industry partners over the past year, regardless of the market returns and cost/price difficulties. Our pork industry will continue successfully for the coming years as well because of particular interest from producers.

Congratulations to the individual winners of the Alberta Pork Congress Awards – in Lifetime Achievement, Pork Industry Leadership and Farm Team. We’re very proud to congratulate the winners of our Lowest Warranty Awards for 2007. Many of you in our client base are able to introduce replacement boars and gilts into your herds with very little problem. We continue to have perennial winners as well as new successes in both the boar and gilt categories.

GROWTH in Carcass Quality:

OLYMEL results on settlement slips for MacMillan Colony in October show good carcass quality on a number of different shipments, now that feed rations have been stabilized. Achieving carcass quality requires that all hogs be delivered with a carcass weight between 85 kg - 105 kg.

Territory Managers

Our representatives Les Robinson, Art Goelema and Paul Klingeman are here to meet with all their clients. Be sure to find your own territory manager to confirm orders or to voice any concerns you have about pig quality. Our fellows work hard to assure you excellent stock of various breeds, whether for fills or as regular replacements. Their farm visits can also provide you with advice in a number of management areas.
