PEAK OF PERFORMANCE NEWS

General Manager Comments

I’m pleased and proud to have been granted the Spectra Award by Alberta Pork as Friend of the Industry. I started working for Alberta Agriculture in 1971 and moved to BC in 1980, returning to Alberta and PEAK Swine Genetics in 1997. It has been truly interesting to work in our energetic and dynamic pig industry over my 20 years in Alberta, to see changes to production systems over that time and the interesting people working in these systems. Pigs have improved significantly over the past 35 years, pig growth improved by 25 kg live weight in the same number of days as it took back in 1971. Many fewer producers are now sending more pigs to slaughter than in the past, much to the chagrin of our industry.

We regret that Mike Miller has been laid off from working in PEAK Swine Genetics. He needed to find a job closer to home rather than the overnight travel that was required as our Territory Manager. We appreciated the work Mike was able to do for us in servicing our customer base over the past four years and we wish him every success in his new posting.

SenYu-Polar Swine Breeding Company Joint Venture received 628 pigs as an export order to China in early October. All animals survived the land and air transport and were released from quarantine November 27 as being healthy and fit for breeding.

A tremendous vote of thanks to all our ongoing clients during this time of crisis in the pork industry.

PEAK BookOf World Records

“All Trailblazer semen has been used up and the conception rate is 85% (reported by the farm director). Sun Feeds will use Duroc soon and seem to be satisfied with the frozen semen inseminations. Good work!!!” is the quote from Vietnam on frozen semen sent there in 2006, with freezing by Alberta Swine Genetics Corp. and training by Albert Eringfeld of Polar Genetics, Edmonton. [Now showing 97% CR.]

The first 3 litters from Summit gilts at Big Bend Colony weaned 35 piglets. Everyone there is tickled with that productivity level.
